Why speed test results can differ by browser

Browsers, extensions, device load, and network settings can change a browser-based test.

A browser speed test uses the browser to open network requests, process data, and update the page. Different browser versions can manage connections and system resources differently. Extensions such as content blockers, privacy tools, VPN extensions, or security software can also affect a request.

For a useful comparison, update browsers, close unused tabs and applications, and test from the same device and network. Avoid comparing a result from a busy laptop on Wi-Fi with one from a quiet desktop on a wired connection.

A different result does not mean one browser is necessarily wrong. It shows that the conditions used by the test were not identical. Look for a repeated difference across several comparable runs before changing settings.
